Bryce (Butterfly)

Bryce (Butterfly)

BRYCE is created by an entirely new process which reduces energy loss at the ball rebound as much as 18% compared to other rubbers. As both rubber and sponge are flexible and highly resilient, they catch and absorb the oncoming ball and catapult it with your own added speed and spin. Top 20 world ranked Kalin Kreanga and Werner Schlager play with BRYCE.

I have never owned/used bryce, but from a receiver's perspective it is the fastest rubber i have played against when my opponent loops from mid-distance or when he blocks from close to table

Ahh good old Bryce. The #1 rubber in the speed-glue era, the true beast of power. With speed glue, this rubber is explosive in its power and versatility. However, I will conduct the remainder of my review on unglued Bryce.

Pros:
- Thick topsheet which prevents "bottoming out" when hitting hard or counterlooping far from the table
- Very stable for flat counter-hitting and smashes
- Hitting harder yields more power, while touch shots have a lot of control
- Blocking is effortless
Cons:
- The topsheet does not have a very high amount of grip (for example, compared to Sriver EL)
- Spin for serves are not as effective
- Flat trajectory, medium-low throw...sometimes difficult to counterloop or lift underspin
- Expensive...REALLY expensive for a pre-speed-glue ban rubber ($$$)
Recommendations:
- People who still want to use speed-glue: this is THE perfect rubber
- Counter-drivers, offensive players who want a stable backhand rubber (or a controllable, medium-hard FH)
- People who like to spend $$$ without sensible reason
Conclusion:
- Nothing really special without glue; a slightly upgraded version of the Sriver series
- There are so many better options out there for the same amount of money or less

even without speed glue this is a very good rubber. good speed and excellent control if you combine it with a suitable blade. if you combine bryce with a soft blade it will give you the spin you need without any huge effort despite the rubber' s relatively low throw. if you find that the rubbers of the latest speed glue effect generation are too fast or lack linearity go for bryce. but take one thing into consideration: butterfly are gradually discontinuing this rubber, a pity...

This is fast. If you can't get speed with this rubber you should consider changing your technique. Spin is hard to get, only goes well when your a few feet behind the table. Near the table it's hard to get really good spin. Serves, chops and short game can be done but is difficult to play with a lot of spin. Ball stays low though.

Even without speedglue you can consider to buy this rubber since it still does the thing.

This is an excellent rubber, It's one of the best blocking rubbers I know and its also great for driving and smashing. The short game is a little bit more difficult but you can get used to it by practise. Definitely not a rubber that I would recommend to beginners our loopers,
Its not a very good looping rubber, it has some but not enough, its realy a rubber for full attackers who like to play fast and hard with not to much control.
I would reccomend this rubber for FH only
