Grubba Pro (Butterfly)

The Grubba Pro blade is excellent for touch blocks, high-spin loops at the table, consistent mid-range play and the chop game from long distances.

The Grubba Pro is what most players who are joining a club for the first time should be using. The "kings of the basement" are often steered wrong by unscrupulous Online Retailers advertising "9 speed and 8 control" or by other players who think that OFF gear is suitable for beginners. Many players who will never get "formal coaching" and plan to play an allaround game should just buy this blade and be done with it. The blade is very, very slow, and has incredible control for a variety of passive shots (push, block). It is a very flexible blade, but feels medium hard and tends to produce flatter balls. In spite of this, you can get some surprising performance from the right rubber, usually those with medium-firm sponges like classic Sriver or even modern ones like IQUL. It's also a chopping machine and can be used in combination with long pips or anti for rock solid defense. I didn't like the feel with classic Chinese rubbers - too dead and slow on this blade; faster rubbers recommended if you want to attack. I have a spare Grubba Pro that I occasionally pick up to frustrate some of my regular opponents, their kill shots keep coming back, again and again until they fold. It has a slightly oversize head, and a thin FL handle, so expect the balance to shift to the head of the blade. Like most of BTY's blades, the Grubba Pro is built very well and are known to last years upon years. It's also an amazing value at around $30USD.

The butterfly andrzej grubba blade is a allround blade that is ideal for players who do not loop out their opponent, but rather like to play defensively, but not quite chopping. It is a control oriented blade. The control on the blade is very good, though not perfect. the speed is also okay, but it is not going to be adequate for looping down your opponent consistency. The hardness is somewhat hard, and it is pretty light weight, at around 80 grams. It is a very good blade for blocking and counterlooping, playing a close to the table defensive blade. At around 50 dollars, it could potentially be a good blade for some players.
