Hurricane 3 (Double Happiness/DHS)

Hurricane 3 (Double Happiness/DHS)

When producing this rubber, technicians had to consider the special requirements the 40mm ball needs. It will be hard to find another rubber that has the same control and despite that, it is also possible to start fast attacking near the table with this rubber.Various Chinese top world ranking players like Liu Guozheng produce evidence of the fact: This rubber provides you with the ideal mixture of control and speed. Take the Chinese feel: A grippy surface and a relatively hard sponge. Just after the first strokes when using the Hurricane 3, you will find the decisive difference....

This rubber has a very stick topsheet at first so much that the ball essentialy sticks to the rubber upside down =]. it has a high rebound effect meaning the ball comes off the rubber fast this is due to the very hard sponge which is good for smashing and looping. depending on the player the control will very. this rubber was very easy to get used to.

In 5 years, I've bought about 5 of these. Only two of them played similar to each other. The weight, tackiness, grip, sponge density, speed, control all varied wildly. But if you do manage to get a good sheet of H3, it is like nothing else..With solid technique, you can loop any ball, right off the bounce. Heck, even with less than desireable technique like mine, you will confound your opponents by creating incredible variations in spin, that they will be hard pressed to compensate for and counter or block with any degree of control.

A Word of Caution:
Being the most popular rubber in China, H3 is always in high demand. As a result, a large number of fakes exist to meet that demand, as DHS seems unable to keep up. This is regardless of whether it is Commercial, "Provincial" or "National".

Perhaps this review is a bit bias but what can I say? Hurricane is fantastic!

I originally played a black 2.2 commercial H3. Since then, I tried a few tensors and some Japanese rubber although none of them felt quite the same. I eventually got my hands on a Provincial (prov) and not long after, a National (nat) version which I assumed to be real.

Commercial plays and feels like the Prov. and Nat. versions, except is worse in every aspect except spin. With this said, you can really feel the difference when you try the prov or nat versions. Prov is more powerful than commercial and a bit lighter. The top sheets still retains a good fraction of the original tackiness making it my favorite; and the sponge is hard. 39-40 degrees. I like hard sponge forehand.

The most distinctive feature of the nat version is its light weight. Nat is noticeably lighter than other Chinese rubber. Next, was its mildly tacky top sheet. The rubber is average but plays magnificently when glued. 2-3 layers per session. I used Butterfly Rubber Protection foil to add tackiness. This made it play like a lighter version or prov.

Hurricane 3 is a beastly rubber with or without speed glue. Its speed doesn't compare to tensors but isn't slow either and when put on a fast-ish blade is plays fantastically! Looping as very easy and good, smashing is average and chopping is super easy - whether its dynamic chopping or normal chopping. Serves are also very easy to do. Blocking is not that great but doable. It becomes easy as long as you can read the ball. Flicking is nice and counter looping is even nicer.

Good for serves, chops and magnificent for loops, Hurricane 3 makes an offensive Chinese style players best friend. Although I must mention, players may need to adjust their technique to adapt to this rubber. Ultimately preferred on the forehand although backhand does work too. It is also not difficult to control.

Value for money is good as even the commercials are quite durable. I'd also say nat is worth the investment if you can get your hands on it.

If not implied, I have decided to stick with Hurricane 3 in the long run, as when I play it, I find myself to be playing most consistent and at my absolute best.

Its hard to make an objective review. H3 is one of the 'extreme' Chinese rubbers, meaning that you will have to use longer strokes and strike the top or side of the balls etc. Assuming that you are playing it correctly, H3 is more to the controlled side. It is probably the Chinese counterpart of Mark V or Donic's JO Waldner. It is one of the best rubber for attackers close to tables as it is very spinny, giving much freedom in attacking options as well as extreme loops. Its dynamic, but its not a chopping rubber unless u get it in a thin sponge. And overall, its a LOOPING rubber. Yes, it has good control and can be used for many styles, but there are many better rubbers than H3 if you're not playing the quick attack top spin game. Mind you, to use H3 properly you need to be at least in an amateur league level. Some people can still use it with thinner sponge and softer/slower blade, but I would not reccomend this rubber for lower level players, as it might damage your strokes development in the long term.

Hurricane 3 has always been my all time favorite rubber. I've tried lots of different forehand rubber like Haifu BW2, Hammond, Sriver EL, Sriver, Sriver FX, Sriver G2 FX, Mark V, Bryce, Tenergy 05, Bryce Speed FX, Bryce Speed, Neos Sound, whenever I go play with Hurricane I'm always playing my best.

I guess its because of my playing style which is to loop a lot and chop whenever I need to. I hardly ever flip or flick, whatever you like to call it but whenever I do this rubber never fails me.

Having played all 3 types, commercial, provincial and national I can easily say provincial is the best having the hardest sponge which I like since the top sheet is tacky but still shows firmness. Commercial's poor quality is the only thing that stops it from playing extremely well and national just has the softest sponge which I don't particularly like.

Excellent for looping, especially mind games creating an extremely high and spinny loop and lower, faster, but still spinny loops. Basically this isn't the fastest rubber around but its definitely not slow. Not exactly sure if its the spinniest but if not, one of them.

Good for chops, great for serves, excellent for loops. Best rubber ever made for offensive chinese style - or any style for that matter players.

Value for money is alright as well. Commercials are cheap and last long and playing isn't bad at all, just inconsistent because of uneven sponge (by like fractions of a mm). The provincial one costs a bit more and plays much better. Lasts a tiny bit longer. National is pretty expensive but well worth the price. Its pretty durable but not as tacky as the other 2 but faster.
